Location

Our location is truly unrivaled, with the best of both worlds, we are a short hike from the sea across open fields and alongside the river taking in the wetlands of Minsmere R.S.P.B. to the left and the old Leiston Abbey ruins to the right. With Sizewell B in the distance and also the coastguard cottages at Dunwich. What greets you at the end is an often deserted sand and stone beach with a path you can follow to Dunwich, then Walberswick and Southwold.

The pub nestles in the village of Eastbridge. It is off the beaten track with pretty cottages and a proper working beef cattle farm with cows grazing on the surrounding marshland. The locals are friendly and knowledgeable, it's worth chatting to one or two to learn about scenic walks and good bird watching tips.

Local walking routes
If you follow the tarmac road towards Minsmere it takes you to a metal bridge over the 'New Cut', a man-made waterway which in the summer is awash with beautiful lily pads and other aquatic flora. Many have seen the resident Barn Owl hunting along this river at sunset. Just before Minsmere is a foot path which leads you through the woods to heathland which is ablaze with heather and gorse at the end of summer. You can often spot a lowly Montjack or sometimes a herd of Red Deer and listen out for the rut in the autumn.

Cycling
By car you can be in Aldeburgh in no time or Snape Maltings, which is also only a 10 minute drive away. Aldeburgh is popular with those who wish to cycle on very minor hills and a safe coastal path for the younger or less experienced. The path leads to Thorpeness with its mere and tea rooms, with rowing boats to hire and many Swans and ducks to feed.

Golf
There are many excellent and long established golf clubs to choose from, either at Thorpeness, Aldeburgh or Southwold to name a few.

Shopping and local villages
The market towns of Saxmundham, Framlingham, Beccles and Woodbridge are nearby, good for a spot of shopping and lunch. Ipswich and Norwich are a little further afield, but very good for shopping with all the typical high-street stores.
